Originally conceived as a one-off collaboration between Alastair Johnson and Özlem Simsek which has grown into a permanent and ongoing band. Al performs psychedelic electronic music as Alien. As Masal they weave Harp, Theremin and electronics into beautiful aural journeys.

Özlem is a Turkish multi-instrumentalist whose middle eastern background is entwined with her western studies in classical music. Among her many collaborations Özlem worked with Viv Albertine on her The Vermilion Border album and performed live with Gazelle Twin.

Alastair performs psychedelic electronic music as Alien. Alien’s first productions were released on Shiny Beast, a label set-up by infamous music promoter Daveid Phillips and manager Andrew Mansi. Following great reviews Blueroom Released put out the first album The Pleasure of Leisure, over the following years Alien continued to release music on selection of labels.

Charity Shop is the first album by Masal and represents the early explorations by the pair, then honed by playing them regularly live.
